From the Editor

It has been an exciting year in technology and innovation. The digitisation of manufacturing is well underway, robots have become more capable, augmented reality is now used everywhere from wine bottles to business presentations, blockchain has become commonplace... In short, the digital disruption is in full swing and it's gathering pace.

As we wait to see what developments 2019 will bring - we have some predictions for you in this edition - we'll close the year here at Brite with a look at what's currently going on in innovation, education and leadership.

We review new research from IKE into the value university-industry collaborations could add to the UK's economy, get an insight into the cutting-edge innovation work going on at BAE Systems' Air business, and hear from the Institute of Responsible Leadership how corporate and organisational leaders can adapt to the challenges presented by the current crisis in public trust.

Also in this issue, we ask how education can address the growing skills gap in artificial intelligence, hear how advances in human-machine interaction can benefit medical research and patient care, and catch up with the UK Government's efforts to develop tools that can predict cyberattacks.

Plus, we chat to robotics start-up MX3D about the future of 3D printing in the construction industry, hear about a new approach to electric vehicle charging, and take a look at the construction of the first Hyperloop passenger capsule in Spain.

I hope you enjoy this edition of Brite Innovation Review.
